We had an informative interview with the
General Manager and Corporate Projects Unit
Sales Coordinator, Olcay Gelibolu Acar, of Miro
Designroom. This North Cyprus company
combines design with ceramic, bathroom and
kitchen accessories under one corporate roof.
- Miro Designroom now has a Corporate Projects Unit working as a separate
unit. When was the sales team of this unit created and how?
Miro itself was established 13 years ago, but the Corporate Projects Unit is relatively new. Corporate projects for us began with a very special dormitory and at the time we didn’t know this would lead to a separate unit for corporate projects. As the demand grew, we didn’t really have the right materials in the ceramic department. We only worked with imported materials and the very large amounts required for large scale projects would have been very costly. As a result we started to research different materials and this is when we found Qua; this was a great and important step for us. Until that moment we had focused on individual houses and every house became like our own. This time we had a dormitory and the whole team became students again. It was a complete Project and we had to consider every need and offer suggestions. It needed to be comfortable, practical and within the financial limits set. I am proud to say that it was and a great project came about and we decided we could build on from it. Thereafter we formed a team and proceeded with the Project Unit.
- You are talking about Pop Art Dorms which was awarded Best Dormitory at the Propertync Awards. As the company that organized the contest, we now that you have been involved in the project from the very beginning. We witnessed how your Corporate Project Unit works. Who are on the team and what do they do?
Currently, our Corporate Projects Unit consists of three people, but of course there is the full Miro team behind it. I am the Unit Coordinator. Abdullah Güler represents our team outside of the office as our sales representative. He monitors projects, introduces our company, makes a tremendous effort to identify the needs of companies and produce the most appropriate solutions. Emine İnançoğlu, strengthens our unit as our interior architect because we prepare 3D visuals for each Project design. We live and breathe every step of the Project together. As I have mentioned before, the team is not only formed of just the 3 people. Our supply unit provides us with great support in the process of delivering materials to the construction sites. Supplying materials during the Covid-19 pandemic has been one of the most difficult processes. Mehmet Yavuz, creates miracles in after sales services and in general he provides incredible support from the beginning to the end of a project. Fırat Özbolayır, our shipping manager, is also invaluable. He can even remember who was given what tonnes of which materials in projects that were completed years ago!
I am proud to say that it was and a great project came about and we decided we could build on from it. Thereafter we formed a team and proceeded with the Project Unit.
Our individual projects team, despite their own busy schedules, support us wholeheartedly when we may be overstretched, especially during those times when customers of some of the companies we work with, come to see the selected products on site and make changes to the materials they require.
The essence of the work we do is that all projects we have completed are basically down to great team work, with the whole team, both inside and outside our unit, working together.
- What are the activities and the services of the unit?
Our Corporate Projects Unit basically focuses on all projects other than individual residences, this includes mass housing projects, schools, hotels, dormitories and administrative buildings. The first step is to understand the needs and budget of the various projects, clarifying the size and type of products which will be used. During this process we study and assimilate the project thoroughly and after the material selection is made, the design process begins. At this stage, we focus on creating the best spaces. The work put forward needs to appeal to a broad range of tastes as at this stage we often do not know the future owners. Conversely in some projects, the entire design process is completed within the company and we focus on offering the most suitable materials that can be used to create the desired living spaces.
We aim to achieve the best possible result by supporting the design process with 3D drawings. Of course, when it comes to the assembly phase, we prepare the master drawings containing all the layout details and send them to the construction site in order to bring the design to life. We do not leave our customers alone regarding the products presented in our offer that may require technical drawings. For example, we always deliver the assembly drawings prepared for built in systems, to the construction site.
- You have explained all your work in great detail. If you were to summarize briefly in the classical sense, what is the mission and vision of the unit?
Of course, it is not possible to separate from the mission and vision of Miro Designroom. Our mission; “we are here for you to create spaces that offer a better life style experience”. Our vision, “a Miro touch to every living space”.
- Which projects has the team provided services and products to since it was formed?
As I mentioned before, we do not have a very long history as a separate unit. However, even in this short period of time, we have had the opportunity to take part in many beautiful and special projects on the island. We entered with all the material groups we could supply such as ceramics, armature, sanitary and cabinets in almost all the projects we have taken on. Naturally, in some projects the need for materials specific to the project, which are outside our supply chain, arises. In such cases we have provided products after doing our research, without upsetting other supply companies.
I guess what makes this unit special is the careful handling of each project. The unit perceives each project as its own, from the beginning to the end of every stage. The process begins with the design and 3D drawings, which are then supported with technical drawings, where necessary, and of course customer satisfaction always comes first.
- Have you observed any positive or negative changes in the sector, or in demands, caused by the pandemic during the last 2 years?
Of course there have been. The construction sector has been affected in the same way that all sectors have been. Many construction projects have either stopped during this time or they are continuing at a slower pace.
There are also problems in the supply chain, especially in the ceramic group. Due to the increase in exports to Europe, the supply of ceramics from Turkey has become difficult. However, we are prepared for such a situation, we had foreseen the situation last year and had started to make preparations early. I can say that we have completed all the necessary procedures.
The whole world is going through difficult times, but I can say on the Unit’s behalf that we are working with great energy and motivation for both ourselves and our collaborations to minimize the negative effects.
