Architecture Studio: Precht
The tree house design located in Austria woodland, which resembles a fairy tale with otherworldly forms, were designed with a passion for imagination, far from the structural understanding of architecture.
Inspired from the Minions & Sesame Street
Bert dwellings, a tree house design system designed by Studio Pretch for alternative tourism, are inspired by the fun world of children's TV shows, far from traditional. Inspired by characters from children's TV shows such as Minions and Sesame Street, the building has large glass windows and balconies that resemble the eye structures of these characters. Precht's co-founder Chris Precht said about the project, “We looked at this project through the naive eyes of children, and asked ourselves, what would the building look like if it would be designed by this unfiltered imagination of a kid?”
DESIGNED TO BECOME A PART OF THE FOREST
"Bert dwellings Poreject" designed by studio Precht consists of bent cross-laminated timber and are shaped like interlocking pipes, serve as accommodation for guests and staff at the Steirereck am Pogusch restaurant in the rural village of Pogusch.
Each structure is assembled from prefabricated components that were made from cross-laminated timber in a factory offsite before being combined in situ. Rapidly built on site in a few days, these modular elements contain kitchens, living areas, bedrooms and bathrooms. The four tubular dwellings are united by their large windows and wood-shingled exteriors that weather and change color over time. Indoor furniture consists of modular pieces and is designed to suit the roundness of the buildings.
A Very Small Part of a Much Larger Story
The structures in the forest that resemble a tree trunk with their pipe forms and wooden structure are a sample of design integrated with nature. Beyond the project's "naive and childish intentions," Precht also highlights the importance of interacting with nature for its occupants, adding: “If you are going to a forest or a mountain, you're surrounded by millions of years of evolution and I think as a person that changes your perspective. Suddenly, you are not the centre of the universe anymore, but just a very small part of, of a much larger story”
