We would like to introduce two projects to compete in an international design competition to be held this year.
Interior designer, Yaroslav Kovalchuk, the designer of both projects, participated in the competition on behalf of the design office named Boom Project. These two projects, specifically prepared for the competition, are located in the city of Odessa, Ukraine. The first one is an apartment with sea views; this apartment with an inspiring design and was completed in February 2019. The second project, YUG, which started its operations in late 2019 and is planned to serve all day from breakfasts to the night-time entertainment, is located in a beautiful location by the sea.
Extreme attention to detail is what makes this project stand out. The restaurant is segmented in to four major areas, an open kitchen with atrium area, fireplace room, banquet hall, and Sea view terrace. Most of the furniture, lighting fixtures and chandeliers were designed specifically for this project. Each area has a unique design with a futures mood in it, nevertheless one could clearly see a conceptual bond that makes this project complete. Floor plans were designed as an open space with intuitive, interconnected passages. Even though the restaurant was designed with a distinctive stylistics as a whole, each space has its unique identity and features.
One could describe this design as “Form follows function”. Design as a celebration of open space and volume. Balance of open space and zoning to create a unique mood of volumetric and yet an intimate space. In order to achieve this mood, we have put a lot effort into the light design and light scene design. Choices of all natural materials have given this space a lovely finishing coat.
A sea view apartment with art deco soul. An open space floor plan with maximum transparency was a fundamental idea in designing this space. Everything oriented towards the views, even the bedroom has glass walls to collect the benefits of the sea view. In spite of the fact we were minimalistic in material selection, there are a few eye caching details to provide depth and perspective to this space. Glass, wood and exposed concrete with colour touch as primer materials and weathered brass as fine detailing. A dark ceiling gives unique space experience, it disappears for inhabitants after some time spent in this apartment; the brain interprets it as the night sky. Therefore, in fact the dark ceiling gives even more height in perception. All metal detailing was designed in-house and made specifically for this apartment.
