    Interview with Kağan Semavi

    A New Big Name: C21

Let’s welcome Century 21 Island to the market. Kağan Semavi, who is the coordinator and civil engineer of Stark Construction, has proved himself in the field of property consultancy and now has the global estate giant Century 21 behind him and has become a major franchise in North Cyprus.

    • The first question that comes to mind is why Century 21, what will you gain?

Century 21 is the world’s largest and most used real estate company. It has 7,000 offices with 104,000 consultants in 77 countries around the world. It offers a wide portfolio and high quality services. Therefore, this is the best brand that could be added to this sector. We are using this brand in North Cyprus in the most productive way possible.

    • Tell us about your sales team. Is it a large group?

We have a strong team, which will introduce our island to foreign investors to the best of their abilities. They provide honest and professional consultancy to local and foreign clients who would like to make an investment on our island.

    • Will you offer your services all around the island or will you focus on a specific area?

We are especially focused on the Kyrenia and Nicosia areas and have completed many projects. There are also properties from Famagusta, Omorfo and Karpasia areas in our portfolio. Our main interest is our client’s requests. We have connections around the island and use them according to what a client wants.

    • We believe the number of qualified property consultants is increasing in the market, why do you think this is happening? Which characteristics should a good property consultant have?

As you have stated, there are many qualified property consultants, but for us, the definition of qualified is slightly different. A property consultant that fits into our criteria has to be experienced, in control of their area, well organised and should know all the details of each property in their portfolio. They should be able to answer questions without hesitation and are expected to be highly motivated , energetic, sharing and also enterprising. Most importantly they should be able to analyse their customers requests.
This sector has become more popular and as a result the number of consultants has increased. It is also because of the income offered in this sector. Every consultant can not be successful, only the consultants with the characteristics I previously mentioned may obtain a permanent place in the market and make a profitable living in this sector. People should have a more general perspective of the property sector. For example, every one wants a lawyer, doctor, architect, engineer in their family. I feel they should want a property consultant in their family as well.

    • How has news of North Cyprus’s property sector spread to the global market?

The property system works differently in North Cyprus. For example, the depreciation period in Turkey is never less than 20 years. But in North Cyprus this is 10-14 years. This is important for investors. Foreign investors are very interested in North Cyprus. Buying property in North Cyprus is entirely an investment opportunity because the population is decreasing. Many counties are aware of this and I’m sure that people from different countries and with different nationalities which haven’t made an investment here will do in the future.
There are a lot of properties in the property sector especially at Century 21. The buying and selling of new projects are fast. However, a second hand market has been created and it has grown quickly as well. It will become an important part of the sector one day. Investors from Turkey and around the world will start to consider second hand properties more often.

    • Your office, located in the Kyrenia city centre is very chic and modern. Who did you work with while designing and decorating it?

We designed our office with Yapım Construction’s engineers and interior designers. Also The Lancester Group of interior designers from England worked on our project. Century 21 was given an office it deserves.
Let’s say good luck for the future and welcome you once again in to this sector.
