Interior Design / Architecture
Interior Architect of this beautiful place, Şölen Üstüner explained her work: "Karşıyaka Home Project, which is currently under construction under favour of its great view, was a surprise house that I designed with a different style in every room, although it was simple and modern in general, it houses striking details and materials."
If there is no obvious feature, the location is not very important when designing the interior, but if there is a visible or sensed environment within the space, then the location becomes important. If an integrated atmosphere is created in the interior with the landscape, it is not possible to think of the place and the landscape separately. As in this house in Karşıyaka... One facade of the hall had such a beautiful view that I had to carry the tones to match the colors of the view.
I’ve been involved in the project during the construction phase. This situation allowed me to make structural changes in the kitchen area. The horizontal window that I opened between the kitchen and the corridor saved the corridor from the dark and made the kitchen more spacious. It was a big advantage of me being involved in the project during the construction phase, while positioning a TV in the hall. Since there was no underfloor heating system and electrical infrastructure, I was able to design the TV unit that could be installed on the floor and watched from every direction and prepared the infrastructure accordingly. Thus, the landscape-TV-fireplace trio maximized the enjoyment, at the same time the landscape could be viewed without closing the landscape.
There was nothing clear about our first meeting with the landlord. They just wanted a modern and useful home. Since they were a family I had not worked before, they liked the drawings of a sample room in two different styles. But they liked both, they couldn’t decide and we decided to implement both styles. Thus, different designs were carried out in each room.
The main idea about this project is its usefulness, practicality and timeless design. Each room has its own style and a different spirit. The TV is mounted on a pole in a specific position so that the user can benefit from the landscape and fireplace at the same time without disrupting the main features. You should not forget the rotating mechanism that allows the user to watch the TV on the balcony. The southern façade of the house has fewer windows, therefore avoiding the sun’s warmth, benefiting from the breeze with more windows than the north and thus becoming more suitable for the climate. A window was placed on the wall between the kitchen and the hallway to benefit from daylight.
All materials used for safety are also be projected to be part of the design. In general, structures using common walls are of the same style and color. Basement floor and entrance hall using common staircase wall are designed in different styles. The colors of the decorative paint used in the common staircase wall were in harmony with the wood shades and entrance hall design and looked luxurious, elegant and flamboyant; The wood, stone wall and wine cabinet in the basement gave a more mystical and natural look.
Our most important feature as Şölen Üstüner Interior Architecture is to make use of the designs that make life easier and to combine all functions with material and color integrity. Although it is not repeated in any design, it is possible for careful people to perceive the secret signature immediately and to understand who the design belongs to. Each material, pattern and motif that occupies space in space is used as a complement to each item.
