Working in the design sector requires being open to new ideas and becoming innovative. Ciddi Home, together with Ciddi Mutfak and other brands, is one of the leading companies in the kitchen, wood and design sector. It is an innovative company that takes its work very seriously. After completing Ciddi Mutfak’s showrooms in Nicosia-Alayköy, Famagusta, Kyrenia and Nicosia-Ortaköy it was now time to design and bring life to ‘Ciddi Home Centre’.
I have always said that as an interior designer, working with companies that have an expanded vision always makes my job more fun. The Ciddi Home Centre building consists of 7 floors and the Ciddi Mutfak section on level -2, together with the Ciddi Home main entrance and the overall general design of all floors, was going to be the most difficult part of the process. Besides these, the room designs of each brand allocated to each floor are sent from the central brand centres and as the new products arrive, the designs have to change. There is a constant need to change according to the brand images and you have to keep up with the changing brands and products. We are also designing a new showroom for December 2020, involving regular meetings with Ciddi Mutfak Company Director, Huseyin Ciddi, who also helps me decide on the designs I would like to use.
At ‘Ciddi Home Centre’, large windows were used in the main entrance so that sunlight would come in from three sides, and by using stripped blinds we can control the amount of sun in the area. The sun mostly gives a sense of warmth to the furniture and also enhances the use of light and shade. I have used white calacalata marble on the walls and wooden textures on the floor. A distance of about 15cm was left from the sides which creates a corridor from the door to the counter. I used a white corian counter with embedded yellow led lights to separate the counter from the room and put more focus on the products placed around it. The hanging ceiling in the lobby is of a similar design to the wall, therefore when you look from the outside the wall and ceiling texture blend with one another.
The colour and texture of the materials used on the walls and floor had to bring out the details of the product standing in front of it so I used black and exposed concrete alternatively. I used a floor to ceiling mirror behind the counter and on the opposite wall of the counter to create a divided space.
I created spacious rooms with high ceilings on each floor by hiding the air conditioning units inside the walls.
In order to prevent the middle floors from getting sun, the wall on the fourth side on the building had to be covered from the outside and using composite materials was the most modern solution. I added lines to the composite block to create a chic look and added lights to make the building stand out in the evenings. This way you do not realise the fourth wall has no windows.
