The Zeytinlik Area is a place that attracts your attention for its calmness, being located right next to the crowded city centre of Kyrenia. The area does not offer permits to give companies the ability to build high rise apartments, so buildings are mainly two-storey apartments or villas. Zeytinlik is located between the Kyrenia-Alsancak dual carriageway and the coastal main road and has many restaurants offering different types of cuisine, branded hotels, sports complexes and most importantly, green areas that offer a natural walking track. Considering its proximity to the beaches and the city centre, there are some really unique areas for housing projects. Let us take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about the Zeytinlik Area and the new property projects in the region.

Zeytinlik village is situated in the northern hills of the Beşparmak Mountains and is one of the oldest villages in Cyprus. During medieval times, the forestry on the North hill looking down to the sea and was occupied by British Lords, eventually given to Karmi Greeks who planted wild olives in Besparmak, which made the village lose its thousand year-old heritage. Despite that, Zeytinlik (Templos) had been the main production area for vegetables and oil to supply Girne up to 1960s. It was formerly known as Templos, due to Templar Knights that are rumoured to have lived here in the Middle Ages. In Venetian maps, this village is called Tepia, Tempi, Telmu, Temp. The fact that Zeytinlik village leads to one of the three exits of St. Hilarion Castle is further proof backing up the theory that Templar Knights once lived here.

Zeytin Homes

This project is developed by Emyap Development (a joint venture of Yapım Construction and EMIC), which is situated 50 meters away from Zeytinlik Village itself, close to the centre of Kyrenia and reflecting the historical texture of Kyrenia. It is surrounded by olive trees, with its unparalleled mountain and sea views. All the olive trees located in the project area have been protected; those that had to be uprooted were moved by experts to other areas where they would flourish again. The project, designed with 29 three-storey detached houses and 24 2-bedroom flats, offers you a peaceful and, more importantly, a greener way life.

To explain this project, let's recall an interview we featured in our magazine several issues ago with Yağmur Özyalçın, the Director of Özyalçın Group:
