The cleaning process is carried out with liquid silicone and not with special system machines and standard dry cleaning detergents, which may contain carcinogenic and allergen chemicals. The cleaning product itself is made from sea sand and is completely natural and odourless. Green Earth Cleaning silicone technology doesn’t harm the air, water or soil; therefore it doesn’t create pollution. Also, delicate items such as evening gowns, leathers, fur, silk and cashmere can all be carefully cleaned using this technology.
The liquid silicone, made from liquefied sea sand, is used in the dry cleaning process, while a solution prepared from bio-enzymes is used in the wet cleaning. This technology is actually mandatory in dry cleaning companies opening in European countries and it is the technology of the future. Soon, the old dry cleaning techniques will no longer be used.
Green Earth’s silicone is so safe that the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) has approved its usage in dry cleaning and other applications. When released into the environment, the liquid silicone safely turns into sand (silicone dioxide - SiO2), water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2). These are considered to be safe waste products.
Cleaning carried out using the Green Earth silicone solution has two important differences. Firstly, it is light and has a low surface tension. This tension allows a more affective penetration into the material’s fibres and allows the dirt particles to just slide off. The silicone delicately cleans and rinses and at the same time decreases wear and tear. Secondly, liquid silicone is chemically inert, in other words during the process of cleaning, it doesn’t react with textile materials or dyes. This decreases damage and/or swelling of the material’s fibres. Customary problems of colour (dye) bleeding and fading are therefore resolved, the softness of clothes is maintained and items do not shrink. As a result, it is safe to clean many types of clothes with Green Earth. Delicate silk, suede and leather accessories, beads, sequins, dyed clothes, special buttons, made to measure outfits, commemorative materials and other complicated items are now much easier to clean.
Another very important point to mention is that items belonging to different customers are washed separately. When you enter the shop, the working environment is transparent and all in view. At present, these services are only available in Kyrenia, near to the Kyrenia Council (municipality) building, but if you have a large load they are willing to help. Mr Metin has undertaken the required training to use the process and has been transferred here from Istanbul to do so. The first thing he stated was that the machine couldn’t be used using the island’s water supply, so he had a purification system fitted to make the water the correct PH levels.
We would like to congratulate Saf Dry Cleaning on their environmentally friendly enterprise and hope it will influence other business in the same sector in North Cyprus.
