The ‘Shark Residence’ is located in the heart of Kyrenia and was designed to provide mainly high quality, short-term rental opportunities. The architectural design is in the shape of a shark’s fin and draws a lot of attention. It was built by the Nurel Group and is considered as another architectural gift to Kyrenia from the company’s Director and Architect, Redif Nurel.
A steel frame was constructed for the curved surface created by the aluminium exterior cladding. No concrete was used on the surface as it is not load baring.
In previous interviews with Redif Nurel we have learnt that receiving building permission for such a unique design, which is driving the design standards on the island, is very difficult because there aren’t many similar examples and these designs seem impossible to build. When you take a closer look, you will see architects and contractors pushing the limits in order to make a difference. We asked Redif Nurel to describe some of the difficulties he had experienced during the construction. “Aquamarine Residence gave us the necessary experience required. We learnt a lot from that, therefore we didn’t have any too many problems here”, he said.
The building was entirely covered with glass and aluminium cladding and the final facade was completed with the installation of the windows. You can see the tip of the building in between apartments while scanning the Kyrenia skyline and when up close it mesmerises you with its remarkable stance.
There are 6 shops on the ground floor of the building with open parking spaces, together with extra underground parking. The on-site facilities offer a traditional hammam, sauna, massage rooms, beauty centre, a roof top restaurant and a swimming pool on the floor above that. The ‘Shark Residence’ is ready to offer its services as Kyrenia’s newest city ‘hotel’ with 55 flats; with both Studio, 1+1 and 2+1 options.
