Editors Note: Need to check also Propertync Magazine Issue 110 on digital platform for beautiful pictures about this interview...
In our previous issue, we shared with you the magnificent mansion designed by the internationally acclaimed interior designer Sir Parviz Pargari. Those who read our interview have found unbelievably valuable information about using luxury details in interior design works. (You can access the interview and previous issues of the magazine) We had a chance to showcase one other project of Sir Parviz Pargari. We are conducting a new interview with him, naming this article as Luxury Design 2. We would like to thank Sir Parviz Pargari, who is also a valuable jury member of the Propertync Awards, for sharing his valuable time with us once again.
This beautiful house is in Bel-Air, one of the most prestigious areas in Los Angeles, California. When my clients, Sherlyn and Rodney Rad, purchased this house they immediately called me to begin the design process for both the interior and exterior, as well as the landscaping. İt was an 80% remodelling project.
We were thinking of creating an indoor/outdoor open space, and I thought to use light colours, and to come up with a new space which was needed, as well as architectural and design elements to create a beautiful, classic-modern home. And as you can see, I succeeded in my goal.
To achieve a cohesive look, you must design both exterior, interior, and landscaping to balance the whole project, which I have always done in all of my projects. The tall entry door with surrounding glass, use of an oversized planter with a beautiful plant, and adding modern outdoor sconces create a luxurious entry.
Use of trees, flowers, and plants not only creates privacy, but also adds a peaceful area to spend quality time with friends and family.
When I start a new project, I usually have several meetings with my clients to make sure I understand their thoughts and wishes they have for their house.
İ listen to them carefully, and then my job as a designer is to implement a well-planned high-level of design. I start with space planning, drawing a furniture layout, showing all design and architectural elements, and creating ambiance lighting, which satisfies both me and my clients. Of course, sometimes there might be some disagreement, but when I explain everything and the expected outcome, they listen, and most of the time they end up agreeing with my recommendations.
When I start a project, I will create a theme for it and according to that I will select all fabrics with the colour in my mind for each individual room. I always add my element of surprise in each area of design as well. Use of Accessories is essential, and they are the final touch to complete the design in each room, and by doing that it will transform a house into a home.
I always start my design with space planning by drawing a furniture layout. That is when the creativity shines. I come up with new and unique ideas on how to place the furniture. Creating a comfortable yet elegant conversation area in each room is essential, and you must achieve that. Then it comes to selecting fabrics, trims, and other related items. This usually takes time to select all of them and to come up with the necessary details. I select proper furniture, and sometimes I design and build a few pieces of custom furniture, specially made for that area, with the highest quality materials and finish to be unique. Eventually I will add these custom pieces to my own line of furniture.
All rooms and areas are unique for me, and I love them because I took time to create them and paid special attention to all the details. And of course, you get excited when you see your creation come to life, and you can feel and touch it. I have never used the same design or furniture plan twice; I believe that I am talented enough to come up with new designs all the time, making each project unique.
Ambiance lighting is a key element to complete both interior and exterior design by adding chandeliers, table lamps, sconces, and of course recessed lighting, which will be used for ceilings and floors as well. Where and how to use the lighting is essential to any design. This way you will be able to showcase all your furniture and accessories as well as pathways.
Of course, in this villa I used the best materials for floor and wall coverings, fabrics, furniture, lighting, and accessories, from the best showrooms at Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles. I thank all and every one of them for helping me and greeting me anytime I walk into their showrooms. By mentioning their beautiful products, I can extend my gratitude and thanks to them. I must also thank my legendary photographer, Mary E. Nichols, who has always been able to capture the best shots of my designs.
The grand entry is covered by white marble leading to the staircase with a large dome above, and chandelier, and oversized sconces from George Smith, which enhances the ambiance.
The dining room floor is a continuous use of marble with detailed design in the centre. The eye-level fireplace, with granite surrounding, adds a touch of modern design. The custom commode and mirror are designed by Pargari especially for this room.
The living room has a multipurpose use. The fully upholstered sofa and matching chairs are from Baker, with Thomas Lavin fabric. The wooden armchairs are from J. Robert Scott, with the coffee table from Jean De Marry. The custom-made wall unit, including fireplace surrounding, is designed by Pargari.
The bar is specially designed for this room with a free-standing counter. Precious stone was used in the back to reflect the lighting.
The office's wall-to-wall, custom cabinets are designed by Pargari, and built by MGI, with a sofa from Holly Hunt.
The kitchen cabinets have a painted finish with a touch of gold details, two matching chandeliers hang above the island. The breakfast room's custom banquette leather is tufted lightly. The table features mother of pearl stone with a designed modern base. The flooring is a unique shade of dark grey and lavender.
The master bedroom’s custom bed includes attached side tables for a sleek modern look. Bedding fabrics are from Robert Alen.
The outdoor furniture and accessories are from Janus et Cie.
