Interview with Şefik Uzun
We interviewed Şefik Uzun, the Vice Chairman of the Board at Uzun Construction and focused on details of their new project Sky Deluxia Life. Then we continued with the economic table of the island and foreign investors. But lets first get to know the company and Mr. Şefik Uzun.
- We know that Uzun Construction is very active in the areas of Famagusta and Iskele. It is especially known for its tall and unique buildings that we on the main roads, and more humble apartments located in the quiet back streets. Let’s hear it from you. What is Uzun Construction’s latest project?
Our company has been offering its contracting and building services throughout North Cyprus for 40 years. Our founding director, my father Gürsel Uzun started in this sector as a contractor in the areas of Nicosia and Kyrenia. After the company was passed down to me in 2008, we focused more on the Famagusta and Iskele areas with our build-and-sell projects reaching a larger group of the population.
- Can you tell us more about yourself? Who is Şefik Uzun and how did he begin his profession? How did the construction company grow and become a group of companies?
I was born on 16 February 1983 in Nicosia. My interest in this sector began at a young age due to my father and I owe my experience in this sector to my father as well. The confidence I have to work in this sector comes from working at every stage of this sector from a very young age. Coming this far wasn’t easy. I received a BA as a Building technician and then completed my studies in the field of Architecture. In other words, I have certified my experience in the sector. We have made a name for ourselves with our functional and modern day designed projects. It wasn’t easy. My advice to the younger generation is that, if you want to be successful, you have to be prepared to make sacrifices and work hard. With time, our company began to offer project design and interior design services, which were then followed by real estate consultancy, and rental car services. Finally we added our timber and wood workshop to our group with the aim to add quality to our projects.
- Can you tell us about your new and enormous project Sky Deluxia Life located in the İskele Long Beach area?
We tried to bring everything a person can dream of and need at our Sky Deluxia Life project located in the İskele Long Beach area. The residential buildings consist of five blocks in addition to the Deluxia Hotel, which will have 60 rooms in total. There will be different social activity areas and different types of flats to choose from in the 24,316 m2 project. Construction will begin in 2020 and we aim to complete the project in 2,5 years. It will consist of 426 flats with different floor plans. There will be an option of studio flats, one bedroom, two bedroom and suites. Some facilities offered at Sky Deluxia Life are; 6 indoor and outdoor pools and aquaparks, walking paths and loccas hidden in the tropical landscape, pool bars, two restaurants of which one will offer alacarte menus and a terrace bar. There will also be an activity centre, Turkish bath and SPA, sports centre (gym), beauty salon, market, gift shop, ATM, mini golf, an open air amphitheatre, 24/7 security, bus services and reception for all residents and guests. Car rental and parking will also be present at our project only Makenzi and Long Beach are located only 550 metres from our project, a short walking distance.
We believe it will be a bridge between the busy, stressful and tiring reality of everyday life and the dream of an easy life in a relaxing holiday environment.
- It is an enormous project! What about the financing? Can you tell us the amount that will go into the project and the pay back plan?
Even though sales of the Sky Deluxia Life project have not as yet begun, foreign investors have expressed their interest in the project. We already have many pre-purchase reservations. Besides the investors, we are going to complete the project with our own finances. Sales made at the promotion event will offer investors a payment plan of 54 months with no interest.
- We can see that as a company you give great importance to nature and the use of green areas but what worries us about projects in this area is the infrastructure. The Long Beach area has developed very quickly, is this controlled growth? Who should share the duties and responsibilities during this process?
It is true that the infrastructure of the Long Beach-İskele area is not complete. I believe that if other investors like us work together with the government and carry out the required responsibilities, both the upper structure and the infrastructure problems will be solved.
- Tall and chic buildings have brought the modern fashionable residential services to the island. What are your feelings on the residential culture in North Cyprus? Can we say that similar services will be offered at Sky Deluxia Life?
Like I previously mentioned, Sky Deluxia Life project focuses on creating a comfortable environment for all users. We believe it will be a bridge between the busy, stressful and tiring reality of everyday life and the dream of an easy life in a relaxing holiday environment.
- Would you like to tell us about your other projects on offer besides Sky Deluxia Life?
We have villas, complexes, flats and investment projects in the areas of İskele, Tuzla, Mutluyaka, Yeniboğaziçi and Famagusta city centre. Also we have projects for all needs at different prices appealing to the local and foreign market.
