Today’s shopping malls may have some similarities with the shopping malls from the past however, the architectural design of such places has been changed according to the commercial needs of the building.

The first one known of was in ancient Greece called the open market place. This is where people would come together for social, economical, political and religious reasons. During the Ottoman Empire, inns and places where shops were found in one place were named bazaars and these are the founder of today’s shopping malls. Malls (shopping centres) became popular during the late 20th century. İt is no doubt that the most important feature of a mall situated in a crowded city is easy and free parking. Services provided to customers by shopping centres such as cinemas, theatres, exhibitions, panel discussions, the number of rooms reserved for these cultural activities and the quality of each attracts customers.

In North Cyprus there are 2 malls. City Mall in Famagusta and the other is 1001 Airport Mall located in Nicosia , near the Ercan airport flyover. Both complexes especially their cinemas are worth seeing. City Mall has more than one floor and puts together organisations and sets up a stage on special days where as 1001 Airport Mall is a large building on the ground floor. Its second stage will be based on an open structured commercial concept.

Other projects for Malls which will be completed soon have been presented to you here in this issue. Some of the commercial buildings will be combined with residences. Examples of these complexes can be seen all around the world and now they will show that the modern trendy lifestyle has spread to North Cyprus as well.

1001 Airpot AVM

Construction of Today’s 1001 Airport Mall began in 2014 and the first stage of the project was completed in the same year and the Mall opened. The second stage of the complex is still continuing. The total area of the project is 77000 m2. While it was being built, a rich life atmosphere of world standards providing activities and products for every need, shaping city life’s modern lifestyle and shopping areas was created. Industrial designer and interioir designer Taner Sadık Seda, who did the interior design for the first stage and has also been included in the second stage of the project is very excited. We can’t wait to see the finished version of the project once the second stage has been completed.

City Mall AVM

With its modern architectural design and located in Famagusta, City Mall Cyprus has been providing its services to the public since 2016. World famous brands have been collected under the same roof. There are restaurants, a super market, cinema, stationary shops and a play area for children. You can find things for everyone of all ages. In total it has a 32000 m2 closed area, 20600 m2 usage area, 7000 m2 open area and is 5 floors in total. There are 60 stores, 5 cinemas and a car park for 1100 vehicles. İt welcomes local and foreign guests. The buildings architectural design was created by Çağıl Tarımer who is also the daughter of Derviş Tarımer the chairman of the board.

Avenue Dereboyu

Located in the heart of Nicosia, it is a commercial complex with a cinema and shops that has a chic appearance. The building was designed by architect Ertuğ Ertuğrul, and built by Denner Construction. The land owner is Canev Denner Properties.

Girne Park AVM

It is an arcade including stores that accompaniesa chic residence located in the Kyrenia city centre. In fact it isn’t a usual Mall because it is a very modern shopping centre and housing estate. The architectural design was completed by Ertuğ Ertuğrul, the interior designer working on the project was Taner Sadık Seda and the landowner is Halsons Co. & Ltd.

Dolphin AVM Project

This project will be located in the Güzelyurt area and aims at the Guzelyurt and Lefke areas. It is considered that it will liven up the area. This commercial building should be completed in a year. Its interior design will be very different to a classical Mall as stores will be designed in islands. The 3D visions on the outer facade will be very interesting and there will be stores from popular brands, restaurants and play areas inside. The architect of the project Ahmet Örses says that indoor and outdoor parking will be spread over an area of 10.000 m2 and that the framework of the project has been completed. The outer facade work should start in the next couple of months.

Akacan AVM Project

This enormous project will be located in a central area. It is going to be one of the best commercial complexes in North Cyprus. It is believed that Akacan Holding, well known for its large projects, will positively have an effect on the economy of the island as it will be bringing many new brands to the island.
