We conducted an interview with Feriha Yiğittürk, a Member of the Board of Directors and Advertising and Marketing Manager of Northernland, for Women's Day on March 8.
It is extremely important to be innovative and responsible in the business World; the key to success comes with believing in teamwork and focusing on your work with the upmost dedication and devotion. I do not find it correct to make a definition based on gender discrimination, such as men or women but of course, we want women to be much more active in executive positions and decision-making processes.
According to research by Harvard Business, companies with female directors are 27% less likely to go bankrupt than those with an all-male board of management. After reading about this research, I thought that women are perhaps more creative and patient than men or maybe women are more open to communication.
However, I would like to point out that merit is more important than gender because I believe that demanding equal opportunities to be created for women should be sufficient. It is a world known fact; gender equality supports productivity. Gender-based mentality patterns are probably the most important disadvantage. Still, both advantages and disadvantages are related to one’s knowledge, experience, love of work and thought put into details.
The real estate and construction sectors are generally seen as a much more male dominated area. Of course, labour-intensive work in any construction may seem more specific to men as it requires muscle and strength yet architects or engineers are mostly women. The mentality we need to fundamentally change is overpeering matters through genders. The real estate and construction sectors are equally challenging for both men and women. We are responsible for corporate communication, promotion and marketing. We also take on responsibilities in the areas of general management and organization. As long as you are innovative and creative and base your work on efficiency and quality, no job is ever difficult. If there are difficulties, we have the knowledge, capacity and vision to overcome them as a company.
Northernland's structure in this sense is extremely exemplary. 72% of management and 48% of other employees are females. However, we would like to emphasize the fact that we give top priority to expertise, knowledge and experience not male or female gender roles.
While interpreting my own management role, I do not find it meaningful to talk about it as a gender assigned role because I have accumulated a lot of experience over the years and assumed responsibility in important institutions. I have constantly developed myself by reading, researching and applying new ideas.
At Northernland, we approach issues through knowledge, experience, efficiency, dedication and expertise, not gender.
